2D Animation
Description:
Flour Sack Jump
“Flour Sack Jump” is a 2D animation drawn frame by frame in twos using Clip Studio Paint. The character in the animation is a 1940s housewife, who also happens to be a flour sack. She was inspired by the fact that, in 1939, flour companies noticed that housewives were using their flour sacks to make dresses for their children, and decided to put floral patterns on the flour sacks and make the logo wash out so that the children could have nicer clothes.

Seen above: the original thumbnail sketches of the character (top left); the gesture drawings for three of the thumbnails (top right); the character model sheet of the front, 3/4, side, and back view of the final character (bottom).
The flour sack character in the resulting animation has one very slight difference from the character model sheet: I removed the flowers on the skirt to simplify the design even further, as the focus was on the movement of a character, not the character’s clothes.
